St. Mary’s Medical Center Earns Recognition

Blue Springs, Mo.– The Center for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine at St. Mary’s Medical Center has recently earned recognition from two separate organizations for patient satisfaction and success in healing.

The center was named a “Center of Distinction” by Healogics, a national wound care management company. To be named a Center of Distinction, centers must attain greater than 90 percent in patient satisfaction and healing outcomes must be over 90 percent.

The center at St. Mary’s also earned a 5-Star Excellence in Healthcare Award from Professional Research Consultants (PRC) and was named a Top Performer in quality ratings from patients. The awards are based on the question to patients, “Overall, how would you rate the quality of care?” The center at St. Mary’s scored in the 100th percentile on that question for all of 2012.

Associated with inadequate circulation, poorly functioning veins, and immobility, non-healing wounds occur most frequently in the elderly and in people with diabetes and other diseases. When wounds resist conventional treatment, a specialized approach is required for healing.

“These awards are a reflection of the great team we have in the center,” says Scott Kujath, MD, FACS, Medical Director of the Wound Care Center. Kujath is a board-certified in vascular surgery and hyperbaric medicine. “Many on our team have been with the center since it opened 10 years ago. Our staff continually works on improving outcomes and is one of the few in the area accredited by the Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society.”

St. Mary’s Medical Center is a 146-bed hospital providing a wide range of acute care and outpatient services from a
24-hour emergency department to state-of-the-art cardiovascular care. St. Mary’s has earned the Magnet designation from The American Nurses Credentialing Center for excellence in nursing. Key services include the Carondelet Heart Institute, Women’s Health Institute and Joint and Spine Institute. Consistent with its mission, St. Mary’s provides compassionate, quality healthcare with a special concern for the poor. For more information, visit
