Kids to “Shop with a Blue Springs Cop” for the holidays

BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. – The Blue Springs Police Department and members of the Blue Springs Citizen’s Police Academy Alumni Association will participate in the second “Shop with a Blue Springs Cop” at 7 a.m., Saturday, December 17, at the Target Store in the Adams Dairy Landing shopping center, 1040 NE Coronado, Blue Springs, Mo.

Thirty Blue Springs Police Department officers will volunteer their time by spending it with thirty students from Blue Springs School District. This program allows disadvantaged children to shop with an officer and purchase $125 worth of holiday gifts for their families.

The “Shop with a Blue Springs Cop” program is an opportunity for children to socialize with officers in a positive atmosphere and reinforce the fact that police officers are friends in the community.

“This is the second year that we have been able to do this event and we are amazed by the community support for the program here in Blue Springs. These types of events help build relationships between area kids and police officers,” said Officer David Brotherton of the Blue Springs Police Department. “It’s an honor and a privilege to be able to help make sure these children and their families have a great Christmas this year.”

Following the shopping event, participants will join officers at the Adams Dairy Pointe Conference Center for a gift wrapping session and lunch with the officers.

This year’s event is sponsored by: Target, Olive Garden, Adams Pointe Conference, Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association, Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting, City of Blue Springs Police Department, Ad Trends, All Star Awards, Autumn Place, Belfonte Ice Cream, Blue Springs Baptist Temple, Blue Springs Chamber of Commerce, Blue Springs Landlord Group, Boyd Midwest, Brockman Family, CherryBerry, Mayor Carson Ross, Cooks Hams, Blue Springs Business League, Cosentino’s Price Chopper, Cornerstone Church, David Bowerman Family, Daylight Donuts, Dena McLean, FIKE Corporation, Fun House Pizza, Godfather’s Pizza, Highway Trailer Sales, Inc., House of Heavilin, Hy-Vee, Kwik Kopy, LaMar’s Donuts, Laura Brennan, Lunar Bowl, Memories on Main Tea Room and Café, Missouri Mavericks, Minsky’s Pizza, Moreland Ridge School, Special Events on Main Street, Shriners International, Steve Steiner, Visual-Concepts LLC and Zeke’s Paint & Design Centers.

OR Renovation with an Open House

Blue Springs, Mo. – The $3.7 million renovation and expansion of St. Mary’s Medical Center’s surgery area is nearing completion.
