Growing Business Header

We are always excited to announce when a new business comes to town, especially when we see this business invest in an existing space. Growth is crucial to business, vital to Blue Springs and we are pleased to announce The Hartley Group has purchased the Dickinson Theatre, located at 1901 N. 7 Highway, with the intent to revitalize and renovate the building, update technology and create a family focused environment.

As part of the remodel, the new management will bring NEC digital projection including Real D 3D and Dolby Digital Sound to the movie watching experience. For avid movie goers, a loyalty program will reward them for their time and money spent at the theatre.

On Sunday, October 21, free popcorn will be provided to all customers attending the movies. Please come and meet the new team managing your neighborhood theatre, The Hartley Group.

Sweet things are happening for The Sweet Tooth Cupcakery!

clock October 11, 2012 11:21 by author Jeff Quibell

GBS Sweet Banner

Locally grown, owned and operated, The Sweet Tooth Cupcakery will be featured on the hit show "Cupcake Wars" on the Food Network, Sunday, October 14 at 7 p.m.  "Cupcake Wars"  launches its seventh season this October and regularly pulls two million national viewers each week.

Touted as "Food Network's tastiest competition yet!", four of the top bakers in the country battle weekly in three elimination challenges until only one decorator remains. The winning baker receives $10,000 and the opportunity to showcase their confections at the winning gig.

Avid promoters and users of the Grow Blue Springs initiative through the Blue Springs EDC, Amy and Trevor are excited about the national exposure this brings their hometown, Blue Springs. Founded in 2010, The Sweet Tooth opened its commercial location in January 2012 at 3100 D South 7 Highway. Focused on using "the best ingredients available," their passion for baking now offers more than 40 unique cupcake flavors, seven cookie flavors and cheesecakes. BSEDC is excited to see one of our own calling attention to our great city, Blue Springs!

To compete in this grueling battle, The Sweet Tooth beat hundreds of  contestants. Owner Amy Goodwin said, "The entire process was intense, there was nothing we could do to prepare ourselves for The Cupcake Wars experience! We had to bake cupcakes for expert judges, in an unfamiliar kitchen, with crew members and producers running around, cameras in your face, surprise ingredients and time quickly ticking away."

The Sweet Tooth is hosting a watch party at Skylight Restaurant & Bar in Blue Springs on October 14. Tickets are on sale for $5 each, with half the ticket price being donated to Blue Springs Education Foundation. Doors open at 5 p.m. with the show airing at 7 p.m. Amy and Trevor Goodwin will be available for a question and answer session after the show. To obtain more information about the watch party, or to purchase tickets,  visit The Sweet Tooth Cupcakery's website.

Congratulations, Amy and Trevor!

4th Annual Blue Springs Has Talent dinner and entertainment celebrating the Historical Society’s 35th birthday and the Civil War’s 150 year anniversary.

clock October 3, 2012 12:21 by author Jeff Quibell

PRESS RELEASE:

Contact: Mary Potter

Phone #: 816-797-4870

Date: October 3, 2012

Who:  Blue Springs Historical Society

What: 4th Annual Blue Springs Has Talent dinner and entertainment celebrating the Historical Society’s 35th birthday and the Civil War’s 150 year anniversary.

When:  Tuesday, October 16, 2012 – 6:00 pm

Where:  Blue Springs High School, 2000 N.W. Ashton Road, Blue Springs, MO 64015

Join the Blue Springs Historical Society in celebrating the 1920’s and the historical significance to our Blue Springs Chicago & Alton Depot.  The 4th annual Blue Springs Has Talent will commemorate saving and now restoring the 1926 Depot.

Blue Springs railroad history changed in the 1920’s decade.  The 1879 Blue Springs two-story Chicago & Alton Depot burned.  Then, two railroad box cars became the town’s depot and in 1926 the one-story depot was build.  In July 2011 the community – businesses and individuals, rallied to save an important part of their heritage from demolition.  With generous donations on June 29, 2012, the building was moved to its new home at Central Park, 1108 SW Walnut St, Blue Springs, MO 64015.

Entertainers will take you back in time to the 1920s.  It was a time of contradictions.   You will enjoy soloists, guitarist, and pianists as you listen to the gospel music of a tent revival and the jazz and ragtime in a speakeasy.  You may even have the opportunity to learn the Charleston which is all the rage.  But, our speakeasy will not break the 18th amendment of no liquor.  Houdini will not be able to attend, but former Blue Springs Mayor Steve Steiner will have a few tricks up his sleeve and rapper Nick Malick is back by popular demand.

The evening will begin at 6:00 p.m. with a meal cooked by the Blue Springs Eastern Star ladies.  A short video of the history of the railroad in Blue Springs and entertainment will follow.     A silent auction will benefit the restoration of the depot.   These items include a guitar with lessons from Meyer Music, a watch from Kennedy’s Jewelers, and many, many more.

The meal and entertainment for one person is $18.00 and for two people $35.00.  At the Dillingham-Lewis Museum, 101 SW 15th Street, Blue Springs, MO 64015, reservations may be purchase on Sundays from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.  We accept charge cards, checks and cash and the day of the event.  Reservations may also be mailed with a check to: Blue Springs Historical Society, Attention: BS Has Talent, P.O. Box 762, Blue Springs, MO 64013.  To pay at door or after October 12th you may email: MPotterEducation@comcast.net or call at 816.797.4870.
