Chairman of Quanta Services, Inc. Contributes $20,000

to Veterans Way Memorial

BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. – Quanta Services, Inc., of Houston, Texas, has made a donation of $10,000 to the Veterans Way Memorial and John R. Colson, Executive Chairman of Quanta Services, donated an additional personal check of $10,000.   John’s parents, Gene and Clarice Colson, farmed the land that later became Pink Hill Park where the Veterans Way Memorial will be located.

When informed of the Veterans Way Memorial, Colson said, “I’m glad to help fund a permanent memorial to honor our veterans, and to have it placed in the area where I once lived is especially humbling.  I am honored that my donation will enhance this amazing memorial.”  John has been very supportive of veterans and veterans’ organizations.

“We are proud of the accomplishments of a Blue Springs resident who first learned his work ethic on the family farm and then used his knowledge and experience to form a world-wide enterprise.  We welcome John Colson’s generous donation to help honor veterans who served our nation,” said Blue Springs Mayor Carson Ross.  “The Veterans Way Memorial will raise patriotic awareness and appreciation of all veterans who served in the armed services and will be a location where youth can better understand the historical significance and impact of wars on our nation.”

Colson and his two sisters attended Blue Springs schools.  John Colson graduated from Blue Springs High School in 1965 (class size of 100 students) and the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1969.  After a tour of duty in Vietnam with the U.S. Army, John was hired by PAR Electrical Contractors, Inc. in North Kansas, working his way up from surveyor to president and owner.  In 1997, John began the process of bringing together three specialty electrical contractor companies to form Quanta Services, Inc. and became the company’s first Chief Executive Officer.

Quanta Services is a leading provider of infrastructure services for the electric power, natural gas and pipeline, and telecommunication industries. Quanta went public on the New York Stock Exchange in February 1998 under the ticker “PWR”.  John Colson became Chairman and Chief Executive Officer in 2002 and Executive Chairman in 2011.  John has been instrumental in expanding the company from a $150 million domestic company to an international company with offices around the world and annual revenues of approximately $6 billion.

The Veterans Way Memorial is located in Pink Hill Park where “The Wall That Heals” was exhibited in 2010.  It will serve as a place of remembrance for those who made the ultimate sacrifice as well as honor the living veterans who served our nation with valor and courage.

The Veterans Way Memorial is being funded by private donations.  All funds are set up with the Truman Heartland Community Foundation, a 501-C-3 organization.  For more information, contact Eleanor Frasier, Veterans Way Memorial Chair at (816) 655-0490 or visit the memorial’s Web site, www.bluespringswallthatheals.net.
